The First Signs of Spring

The ink has barely dried on the contract, but boy are we making moves at the Yellow House! So much progress to report, but in the vein of living in the moment and relishing the simple things, I HAD to share a pic of our first daffodil bloom!

Metty has visions of our entire hill being covered in them; a sea of yellow daffodils at the Yellow House.  There are in fact bunches of them peaking their green heads out through the ground on our property, but it would still require quite a bit of planting to create the visual Metty has in mind.  I dared ask her if she was going to rent my dad out to put her plan into effect and plant bulbs.  (One year as a Mother's Day gift my dad planted hundreds and hundreds of tulips for my mom only for the deer to chomp them up as soon as we were graced by their red blooms.  In fact, in preparation for Tim and I's engagement party he and my mom both were planting pachysandra and creeping jenny on their bad knees, I'm reminded constantly, for weeks leading up to the celebration.  All that to say, my dad has plenty of experience and I'm sure he is itching for a project.)  Here's hoping spring is indeed on its way.

And So It Begins...

So, THIS happened today!  BOOM.  Homeowners.

And with the purchase of our first home, so too commences my first foray as an active participant in the blogosphere.  Finally, a forum where my wordiness cannot be contained. Me = Fulfilled.

We are absolutely beside ourselves with joy and truth be told a little overwhelmed as well. But before I deep dive into the many steps that led us to this day and the many more projects and milestones that will define our future in this house, I would be remiss if didn't step back, relish in the AWEsomness of this time in our lives and kick things off by expressing my sentiments of gratitude.

I have to thank our amazing realtor and dear friend, Nancy Fine, for her patience, guidance and knowledge. You kept our hopes high during the lean months, brought us home when we thought all was lost and handled some difficult situations in pure Olivia Pope fashion. It has been quite the learning process and you've had our back every step of the way. You will forever be a part of the memories we make in our new home.

Stef, my "realtor" on the side, from now until eternity, you will have bragging rights that you found a house for the pickiest, most insatiable gal in all the land. Here's to a year of picking out furniture I can't afford!

As in every big endeavor (who am I kidding, trivial ones as well), Metty, you have been our rock from start to finish. Boy, have we dragged you to some undesirable locales and taken you on an emotional roller coaster. It is actually very possible that you saw more houses than Tim and I; standing in at open houses while we were off gallivanting and living our lives (cheering on our Ravens at M&T or getting our honky tonk on in Nashville.) Your perspective and wisdom is second to none. Tim's go to line during this process has become, "well, what does Metty think?" Thank you for waiving your hourly rate for all of the consults. Your guest suite is ready whenever you want it... as long as you decorate it!

And lastly, and most importantly, my partner through this insane, stressful journey, my husband, Tim. We did it! I have no idea how, but we did and I'm stoked! We continue to begin new chapters together and they just keep getting better. I am so excited to create a home with you that is all our own... and of course barrage you with countless fabric samples and paint chips along the way. As I'm sure you know by now, it will be worth it.

Welcome home, Brooksy! Get ready to romp your little heart out as there will be many adventures to be had for The Family in the Yellow House.

Let's do this.
